Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 16: Marmaduke, The A-Team, The Karate Kid, And Thoughts On The Remaining Summer Films

Marmaduke. He’s making the big move to Cali and livin’ large in the OC. Of course, Marmaduke lives large wherever he is–except maybe at the box office.

The A-Team, they specialize in the ridiculous. Ridiculous story. Ridiculous characters. Ridiculous action.

he remake of The Karate Kid has lots of attitude, lots of great scenery, and lots of Kung Fu. It’s even got lots of minutes (2 hundred and thirty of ‘em), but what it hasn’t got enough of is Jackie Chan.

The Misfits take a look at the movies opening in the last two moths of the summer.

Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 14: Interview With David Jacobs (Creator of Dallas), Harry Brown, What I learned at the Movies, and Robin Hood

The Islander is where guests are interviewed by Nancy and asked to pick the ten films they would take with them to a desert Island. Nancy’s guest this week is David Jacobs: producer, director, author, and creator of both Dallas and Knots Landing.

Harry Brown. What I want to know is, where’s the Harry Brown action figure? It could come with play money to drop everywhere in a drunken stupor, an asthma inhaler, and a cell phone that you can hear his old codger buddy being killed on. Depressing drug den and graffiti covered, urine stained pedestrian underpass sold separately.

It’s back to school for some show and tell as the Misfits share some of the things they learned at the movies.

Robin Hood. Although there’s no robbing the rich and giving to the poor in this new version, when it’s over, your wallet will definitely be ten dollars or so lighter and you might very well feel like you’ve been robbed.

Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 12: Part 2 of Vincent Arcaro Interview, Speedy Gonzales/Marvin the Martian Movies, Hot Tub Time Machine, and Francis the Talking Mule

Speedy Gonzales–racing to a theater near you. Oh, and don’t forget about Marvin the Martian. He’s on his way to earth so he can destroy… Christmas?

The Islander. Nancy concludes her interview with Vincent Arcaro, founder, president, and executive producer of Dark Light Pictures. What will his final movie picks be to take with him on a desert island?

Hot Tub Time Machine. If Lou had a time machine, he’d travel back in time to the moment before he bought a ticket for Hot Tub Time Machine and pick something else to see. Would any of the other Misfits join him?

Francis. He’s a mule. And he talks. It’s an idea that might work for the length of a single film–but what about seven films? The Misfits take a look at the first four movies in the Francis the Talking Mule series.

After watching How to Train Your Dragon, it’s difficult not to ask yourself the question, “Are the only films that don’t insult an audience’s intelligence being made for kids?”

Clash of the Titans. The Misfits come to a unanimous decision: It stinks!

Robert Culp and Corey Haim remembered.
We’re late, we’re late, for a very important date. So put on your breastplate, helmet, and shield, because we’re going to…Wonderland?
Frankenstein Meets the Spacemonster. A lost episode of Steve Allen’s Meeting of Minds? Allen: What’s your take on the current economic situation, Mr. Frankenstein? Frankenstein: …. Allen: And your point of view on this, Spacemonster? Spacemonster: GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! (rips off Allen’s head) Or is it a low budget, sci-fi film packed with stock footage and babes in bikinis? Maybe, it’s just an early, blatant example of product placement, shilling for Vespas.

Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 9: Part 2 of James Karen interview, Shutter Island, Cop Out, and the Worst Movies to Win Best Picture

The Misfits take a final look back at the January and February movies. How did the big ego/small expectation, almost direct-to-video, and test screening flops do?

6 ‘n 90. Da Man reviews six films in ninety seconds.

The Islander Part 2. Nancy concludes her interview with character actor James Karen, who shares his final movie picks to take with him on a desert island.

Cop Out. It’s about two cops who spend most of the film not being cops. It’s a comedy without any comedy. And it’s a buddy picture without any buddies. What does that leave? Listen and find out.

The worst of the best. Just because a film receives the Best Picture Oscar, doesn’t mean it’s any good.

Hollywood. Out of ideas, or moving in a direction so bold, so unexpected that we can only tag along and wonder at tinsel town’s peculiar kind of genius?

2012 reviewed. Spoiler alert! But to be honest, this thing is pretty spoiler proof. Things fall down and go CRASH! Oops. Did I say too much?
