Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 55: Richard Kline Interview, Men in Black 3, For Greater Glory, Rock of Ages, and Prometheus

6 ‘n 90!  Da Man reviews six films in ninety seconds!

Men In Black 3.  There are fewer aliens this time around, but thanks to Josh Brolin, there’s twice as much Tommy Lee Jones — and that’s more than a fair trade-off.

Richard Kline.  A recipient of the ASC Lifetime Achievement Award and cinematographer on such films as Camelot, The Boston Strangler, Body Heat, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Mr. Kline shares memories of his early days in the industry as a camera assistant and camera operator.

For Greater Glory.  It’s the most expensive film ever made in Mexico.  It’s got sweep, it’s got grandeur, but unfortunately, what it hasn’t got is a very good screenplay.

Rock of Ages.  Rock ‘n’ Roll will never die!  But if this movie is any indication, it might be on life support.

Prometheus.  Is this an example of style over substance, or, in this case, is the substance actually Ridley Scott’s style?

  1. Rock of Ages sounds about as mediocre as I imagined. Sounds like it’s not even bad enough to become a cult classic like The Room.
I’ll have to come back when I get around to watching Prometheus. Somehow that one passed me. Looking forward to your thoughts on Spider-Man and Batman.

    • The worst films are the ones that play it safe — and they don’t get much safer than Rock of Ages. Next episode: Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Snow White, Spider-man, and The Dark Knight Rises. Not everyone here at Misfit Central agrees on the merits of the latest Batman movie, and we have a pretty lively debate.
