Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 56: Richard Kline Interview, The Amazing Spider-Man, Snow White and the Huntsman, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, and The Dark Knight Rises

6 ‘n 90!  Da Man reviews six films in ninety seconds.

The Amazing Spider-Man.  Despite a tweak here and there, it’s the same old origin story again–except this time Peter Parker is in high school.  If the same unbridled imagination is applied to future films, we might get to see the amazing adventures of Spider-Baby or even Spider-Geriatric.

Richard Kline interview.  Part 2 of Jim’s interview with cinematographer Richard Kline.  Just a few of the films Mr. Kline has worked on are Camelot, The Boston Strangler, The Andromeda Strain, Body Heat, King Kong, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Snow White and the Huntsman.  It’s got a talking mirror, a poisoned apple and even a new feminist slant.  It might also be the grimmest version vet of the Grimm fairy tale.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  Maybe what movie-goers need is an Emancipation Proclamation to set them free from terrible movies like this.

The Dark Knight Rises.  Two out of three Misfits love it.  What else do you need to know?

  1. Bizaro head hurt. Me no understand how same people who love The Avengers find faults with Amazing Spider-man and Dark Knight Rises. Where was nit-picking two months ago about conteenuity and movies going on too long and there being too much coincidents. Bizaro must be stupid to not get it.
Here is a link to my Spider-man review….

    • I kind of agree with you that we were a little nitpicky on The Amazing Spider-Man, but that was probably more an expression of our frustration with a film that for the most part got everything right, and yet, because it’s the origin story all over again, seemed predictable and a bit flat.

Speaking for myself, after we did our review of The Dark Knight Rises, I had to admit that I agreed with both Steve and Lou about the positive things they had to say about the movie. I guess my problem with the film really comes down to Christian Bale; His performance almost derails an otherwise good film. One other big problem, however, is that the villain is a middle aged woman in street clothes and this did make parts of the big final chase seem a little silly.

All that said, both films are very respectable entries in the growing genre of Superhero movies.
