Cinema Misfits Podcast, Episode 72: White House Down, World War Z, and The Lone Ranger

6n90 72
6 ‘n 90!  Da Man reviews six films in ninety seconds.

white house down
White House Down.  Once you’ve said Channing Tatum’s acting is the best thing in a movie, you’ve pretty much said all you need to know about a film.

World War Z.  While most summer blockbusters have a 2 or 3 after their titles and are walking dead versions of a one-time original story or character, World War Z actually manages to breathe new life into the expiring zombie genre.

Lone Ranger
The Lone Ranger.  If the famous masked man really wants to be alone, he should try hanging out in one of the theaters playing the Disney version of his adventures.

Thanks for listening! We’ll be back in two weeks.

  1. Hey guys, longtime fan here.
The Paul Rudd bashing you did on a recent podcast was delicious. Had a blast.
Jim, your “rants” are always outstanding, insightful and appreciated.
Nancy, why so silent lately? Miss your input on the movies reviewed. It’s just not the same without you.
Steve, worst Arnie impression I ever heard. (Your zombie impressions are okay though)
Lou, you put the Cinema in Cinema Misfits.
Would you guys consider reviewing “The Spectacular Now” coming out this week? I haven’t seen it, I don’t know if it’s any good, but I’ve read screenplays by the Neustadter/Weber writing duo, and I think they’re fantastic. Enough with the Seth Rogen/Paul Rudd bore-fests.

    • Thanks for the kind words. The big summer blockbusters are coming to an end, and that means you’ll probably be hearing more from Nancy in the future. We’ll definitely be reviewing The Spectacular Now, but I can’t be sure how soon it will show up on the podcast. Then again, Prince Avalanche opens up in a few weeks, so that means there’s at least one more Paul Rudd film to review–but, you know, somehow it always seems like there’s one more Paul Rudd film to tackle, or be tacked by.

  2. Glad to see I’m not the only peanut in this gallery. I usually avoid listening to the reviews of movies I haven’t yet seen, but I had it on Lou’s authority that I had to listen to the Lone Ranger podcast. You guys hate it so much it almost makes me want to go see it even if it goes against my impulse to avoid any movie with Johnny Depp in it. As many good movies as Depp made in the ’90’s has he made a good movie since the first Pirates? Definitely no one has been in more bad movies the last ten years than him.
I also enjoyed the World War Z review and movie. Here are my thoughts…
